friend的基本意思是“朋友,友人”,一般没有血缘关系。引申为“同胞”或“自己人”“同盟者”,还可指“极有益或熟悉的事物”。其首字母大写时可表示“(基督教)公谊会教友”。
friend可用于在公开场合对人的称呼。
friend常与介词of或to连用,表示“…的支持者或赞助者”。
be〔make, keep〕 friends with sb 中的主语和宾语不论是单数还是复数, friends总是复数形式。
形容“好朋友”,可用good, great, old, close, bosom, intimate等词来修饰friend。当所谓的“男朋友”或“女朋友”实际是指“未婚夫”或“未婚妻”时,则常用fiance或fiancee来表示。
boy friend和girl friend既可指男女恋爱的对象,也可以只是说明一下朋友的性别。例如:Her new boy friend is a teacher.她新交的男友是一位教师。Cage and her girl friend went to the street.凯奇和她的朋友上街去了。注意也可把boy friend或girl friend合写为boyfriend或girlfriend。
