我给你比较简单的解释一下，
首先，another 和 the another 是在两者比较时用的，而other 和 the others 是三者或以上用的。
其次，我据个例子，玛丽有两只苹果，一只是大的一只是小的。
Mary have two apples,one is big ,the other is small.
所以 the other 是有特定范围的的。
玛丽不要这只苹果，她要另外一只。
Mary does not want to eat this apple ,she wants another.
此another 表示相对而言的另外一个。没有特定含义，言外之意就是只要不是这个苹果任何其他的苹果只要是符合本人喜好的都可以。
再次是，other 和 the others
他们也是有没有特定指出的区别,看两句句子：
1，there are forty students in our class ,sixteen are boys ,the others are girls ..
2, there are lots of c...
but后面的意思都是转折，否定前半句的意思。这两个词组没有固定搭配的语法要求，everything but就是“所有的东西怎样怎样，但是（除了）……”，如，I can do everything but kissing you. something but就是“一部分怎样怎样，但是（除了）”，如，Something isn't well, but I can handle it.
