生物等效性试验是指用生物利用度研究的方法，以药代动力学参数为指标，比较同一种药物的相同或者不同剂型的制剂，在相同的试验条件下，其活性成分吸收程度和速度有无统计学差异的人体试验，试验对象为健康男性，一般要求18～24例。。
生物等效性试验在药物研究开发的不同阶段，其作用可能稍有差别,但究其根本，生物等效性试验的目的都是通过测定血药浓度的方法，来比较不同的制剂对药物吸收的影响，以及药物不同制剂之间的差异，以此来推测其临床治疗效果差异的可接受性，即不同制剂之间的可替换性。
按照《药品注册管理办法》的要求，属于化学药品注册分类5、注册分类6的口服固体制剂需要进行生物等效性研究。
