Jining, known as the
hometown of Confucius and Capital of Grand Canal, is an important industrial
and cultural center lying in the southwest of

is comprised of two districts(Central District and Rencheng district), three

History and Culture
Jining has a long history of over 7,000 years. It is
the birthplace of Yellow Empror, one of the earliest ancestors of the Chinese
nation, as well as five Chinese Confucian saints including Confucius, Mencius,
Yancius, Zengcius and Zisiciu. Thus Jining is an important cradle of
Confuianism and Chinese civilization. With the commencement of the
Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in the Yuan dynasty, Jining developed into a
prosperous transportation and commercial hub with diversified cultural traits.
Nowadays Jining has a rich collection of historical remains including the
famous World Cultural Heritage Site of Confucius Temple, Mansion and Forest and 19 “key historical sites under state
protection”. Both Qufu and Zoucheng have been designated as “National-level
Famous Historical and Cultual
City”. The multi-facade cultural
heritage, such as Confucianism, primitive culture, Canal culture, Shuihu
Culture(Shuihu is the title of a
household Robinhood-like story in Chinese Classic Literature) and Buddhist
culture, have turned Jining into a famous tourist city in China with
distinctive tourist zones in north, south, east and west. In the year of 2009
alone Jining witnessed a huge tourist number of 24.685 million at home and
abroad who brought RMB 18.511 billion in tourist revenue.
Economic Development
Jining has achieved rapid growth in economic
development and urban construction since its opening-up.
The GDP of 2009 was RMB 227.919 billion, up
12.7%, ranking sixth in
province. Investment in fixed assets was RMB110.06 billion, up 25%. Local tax
revenue was RMB13.466 billion, up12.7%, ranking fifth in . Total sales of consumer goods was
RMB86.74 billion, up 19.1%. Exmports were USD 1. 603 bilion and
imports were USD 1.283 billion, totalling
USD2.89 billion. Sixty-one new foreign investment projects were approved in
2009, with a combined investment of USD 446 million, among which USD 416
million were actually realized, up 7.3%. Investors from 14 countries and
regions have set up investment in Jining and 29 of them are among world’s top
500 Fortune Globals. Meanwhile, 11 new overseas investment enterprises were
approved in 2009, with a total agreed investment amount of USD232.86 million.
So far 64 overseas enterprises have been established in over 30 countries and
regions in Asia, Europe, America,
Africa and Oceania.

Jining is located in the central area of East China, one of the most economically
developed regions with an convenient transportation and logistic system. Many big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Wuhan and Xi’an,etc. are located within the radius of 500km. The circle also covers the most economically dynamic regions including Bohai rim,
