Do you know the phrase “Weibo
Addicts” (微博控)? Do you write a Weibo? If you don’t, you are
Weibo means microblog. People may
spend much time writing a blog, but it takes a little time to write a
microblog. Why? Because every message on a microblog is less than 140 words.
Microblog started in the USA. It came to China in 2009 and it grows very fast. In 2011, the number of Chinese
micro-bloggers grew to 300 million. People write microblogs for many reasons.
For many microblog users, it is a great way of learning the freshest news,
talking with friends and sharing different kinds of information, including
news, everyday life, pictures, music, videos and so on.
It is easy and fast to send a
message on a microblog. However, this can also bring problems and even panic (恐慌).
For example, when the big earthquake and tsunami (海啸)
hit Japan in March, 2011, messages like “Salt can help people fight radiation (辐射)”
were hot on microblogs. Then a crazy buying of salt followed. Later people knew
it was just a rumor (谣言).

Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true. Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. if it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here is some advice for you to bridge the generation gap (代沟).Don’t argue with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry.Your parents probably won’t consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express yourself well if you are angry. Go to someplace to cool off (冷静下来). Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.
Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.
Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something . In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect(尊重)to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.
Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.
A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person .It is worth having a try!1.According to the passage, who have a communication problem ?

Would you completely
trust your friends if you couldn’t see anything? If you are falling, do you
believe they will catch you and help you stand up? Our teacher helped us to
find the answer.
Our teacher is named Morrie. One day, he said that he had a

first group, stands in front of us with his eyes closed, and then falls
backwards(向后). The second group stand behind him. Before he

embarrassment(尴尬).

eyes, and slowly fell backwards. She looked quiet but brave.

floor. But before she hit the floor, the other students caught her, held her
and finally helped her stand up.
“Whoa!!” we were all surprised, and also encouraged. The
girl was happy, too. Seeing this, Morrie smiled and said to the girl, “When you
close your eyes, you can’t see anything. You won’t feel safe. When you are
falling, the feeling gets stronger. You are not sure whether you will hit the

Now students’ English handwriting gets worse and worse,
which makes their teachers feel worried. Is your English handwriting beautiful?
If not, here are four steps that really work!
Use paper that has lines
Using paper that has lines can keep you writing well
when you write English words or sentences. Those lines on the paper can help
you to write words in the right size. Be sure to fill the lined space
completely. And make sure those capital letters (大写字母) are written properly.
If your writing is hard to read, try slowing down a
little. For some kids, writing slowly makes handwriting clear. If you write too
fast, it’s hard for you to stop where you should, and even worse, you may make
more mistakes.
Hold your pen right
When you hold your pen in the correct way, writing is
much easier. Some students press down really hard when they write. That makes
the handwriting not nice. Try to relax yourself and don’t hold the pen so hard.
Let your writing appear nice and clean. If you do so, people will guess you are
a student with a good habit.
Draw more pictures
Drawing can improve your
handwriting. You need to use the skills to control your pencil better when you
are drawing pictures. Even though you have no chance to draw at school, you can
practice by yourself at home.
Handwriting is very important.
Imagine you are a world-famous movie star or a well-known sports player, what
do you do when your fans run up to you? Give them your autographs(亲笔签名), of course!
help you to write words in the right size.

Writing carefully on the paper
2. If you write too fast, it’s easy to
A. make the words clear

write the words nicely

Cause and effect is one way to explain things that happen around us. Many things happen because something caused or influenced them to happen. Sometimes it is hard to look at a cause and find out what causes the effect. It may help you to start with the effect and use your reasoning (推理的) skills. Think about all the things you know that could be reasons for the effect you can see. For example, you may see someone putting on a heavy jacket. This is the effect. To look for a cause, think to yourself, “What would make someone put on a heavy jacket?” Maybe the person is going outside into very cold weather. Maybe the person works in the penguin pen (企鹅圈养地) at Sea World. Maybe the person is going to visit an ice skating rink where the air is kept very cold. All of these things could be a cause for putting on a heavy jacket. Now, think about a second example. The effect is a boy named Tony has to go to the head teacher’s office. What are the possible causes? Maybe he fought with another student. Maybe he is just being picked up early. Maybe he is being given a prize!
Here is another example for you to think about its cause and effect. Carol,13,was trying to fall asleep when her 8--year--old brother, Doug, came into her room. He looked around a bit,but seemed really out of it. Then Doug went back into the hallway and stood there looking straight up at the hall light for quite a while. Little brothers can be very strange, but this was really much too strange. Carol didn’t know what to do. Just then, Carol’s father appeared and explained that Doug was sleepwalking. What’s the cause and effect, could you tell?1. According to the second paragraph, which of the following is an effect? A. Someone puts on a heavy jacket. B. Someone works in the penguin pen. C. Someone will go outside into cold weather. D. Someone will go to visit an ice skating rink.2. Tony has to go to the head teacher’s office. Which of the following isn’t the possible cause? A. He fought with another student.
B. He is going shopping. C. He is being picked up early.
D. He is being given a prize.3. What was Doug doing when his sister Carol tried to fall asleep?A. He was going outside.
B. He was reading a story.C. He was sleepwalking.
D. He was looking for his dad.4. Which of the following is cause and effect? A. Tony got up and had a glass of water. B. We came home and found him sleeping. C. The ball was lost and a window was broken. D. Tim was late again and his teacher got angry.

主题阅读Ⅰ.Maybe you have seen this in schools: some students are studying nearly all the time but they just pass their exams, while some others may spend much less time on their books but do much better in exams. How could this happen? People used to think that hard work is the only way to success. But now they have understood that smart work can make them succeed, too. Hard workers don't mind working for long hours, while smart workers always think of several different answers to these questions, “Why should I suffer this?” “Isn't there a better way to do this?” Thanks to these people, we can use computers instead of the abacus now. Progress in every field is the direct result of “try to find a better way” by smart workers. There was a large soap factory in Japan. Once it received an unusual letter from someone who complained that there was no soap in the soapbox he bought. How could empty soapboxes go out of the factory? The engineers checked the producing and packing. The producing was fine, but in about one in ten thousand cases, the packing machine (机器) let an empty soapbox go. There was no need to spend a lot of money repairing the machine for such a small problem. The engineer soon w he put a huge X-ray machine and two large computers to find out the empty soapboxes. After teaching the workers how to use it, he sat down in his seat, exhausted.“Sir, we could have solved the problems in a much simpler and cheaper way,” a worker said.“Really? How?”“We can put a huge fan near the packing machine. The wind coming from the fan will blow away the empty boxes, leaving the other boxes with soap.”See, this is smart work. In order to succeed, we should not only work hard like the engineer, but also think smart like this worker.(

It’s something familiar to all parents of young children: you’re in
a busy shopping street and your child wants to pee (小便) and he just can’t hold it
any longer. But two parents’ decision to let their child relieve (释放) himself has caused much attention
By now, it seems, the whole Chinese Internet is familiar with what
happened on a crowded Hong Kong shopping street. A mother holds a nappy (尿布) while her two-year-old pees.
A passerby took pictures which then were put online. The woman explained that
they had found a public toilet (厕所) but saw there was a long queue, so she had no other choice but to
let their child to relieve himself on the street instead.
Why has this one child’s act caused so much upset? Allowing a child
under 12 to “answer the call of nature in any public street” is
against the law in Hong Kong and the parents will face a 2,000 Hong Kong Dollar
($250) fine (罚款).
But the on-line chatter has put all the attention on the fact that this family
were tourists from mainland China, rather than being locals. “For Hong Kongers,
people might think from time to time that mainlanders are not so polite and
often break the public rules,” says Martin Yip of BBC. Charmaine Chui, who was
born in Hong Kong, told BBC she feels angry to have seen mainland tourists
peeing in shopping centers and restaurants. “Hong Kong is a beautiful, modern
city. What do these people think of it?” she says.
In mainland China, there has also been criticism of the parents’
behavior. But most of the people say they find the parents’ behavior
understandable as they had tried to find a toilet for their child and the
mother used a paper nappy rather than simply allowing the baby to pee on the

Most children don’t enjoy doing chores.
They like playing computer games rather than cleaning the rooms. But in Australia, Jim and Robert’s mother, Mrs.& Black, has good and
proper methods to get their children to do housework.
Here is an example.
“Mom, have you worked
out next week’s chores? Let Jim and me choose the
cards.& I can’t wait. It’s
When Robert shouted out, his
mother had already put all the cards on their big table. On the cards, there
are some words like these, “sweep the floor, clean your bedroom, help mom cook, wash
vegetables, make beds, feed the fish, cut the wood, clean the bathroom” and many others, Jim and Robert chose two cards for each day from
Monday to Friday. Then they would hang them on the weekday task board. Jim
likes to clean the bathroom, so he picked up the card “clean
the bathroom”. Robert loves to make the bed so he
picked up his favorite card. Jim again picked up “wash
vegetables” and Robert chose “feed
the fish”. Soon the two boys were happy to take away
all the cards.
To help the children do
chores, their mother thought hard and came up with this idea. Of course,
the parents did the chores at weekends and left Jim and Robert two days free.

&&&& Values join us together
and set us apart. Today, our society has a terrible lack(缺乏) of values. Here are some social values that everyone needs.
& &Respect
& Respect means to respect others in
everyday life. Even if you are against a person, it is important to have respect. It is
this respect that makes us human. Without respect, we become animals. We need
to respect our friends for our friendship. We even need to respect our enemies
because they help us to grow up and become stronger. Respect is one of the
crucial values in a relationship.
& Love is everything. With love in our
hearts, we feel no need to hurt another. With love in our hearts, we will pay
more attention to the similarities in opinions rather than the disagreement. If
we want others to be good to us, we need to be good to them. After all, we give
love to get love, right?
&People often ignore (忽视) the meaning and importance of loyalty. Loyalty is necessary for people
to believe in each other. In no matter what kind of friendship, we need to
believe in each other so that we can work together towards the same goal.

&&& Most people want their
children to be successful in school and a parent’s role in that success must be
very important. Parents should help children to build
their confidence and achievements. Parents should also play the role of a
friend as well as a teacher in children’s education.
&& Learning about math or reading
isn’t the only problem we face in school. Maybe we are having problems with
teachers, classmates or other people. At this time we really need a person who
is ready to hear what we are thinking. And the person should be you---my dear
parents. If we have nobody to talk with, we will have more stress in our school
life. Please listen to our worries. It’s good for our study and health.
&& On the other hand, parents can’t
leave all the problems to the teachers. Although it’s their job, even the best
and brightest teachers can not take care of every child. We still need
personal attention, so the role the parents is to make sure we can get it.
Stay in touch with our homework and the tests. Connect with our teachers
regularly to talk about how things are going in our classroom. If we need more
help, be active in getting it and work with us.
Nothing helps a child succeed more
than a parent. A little willingness from a parent can play a very important
