句子是文章的基础,无论多长的文章都是由一个一个的句子组成,有人将句子比作砖块,将写文章比作建筑房屋,文章的优劣在很大程度上取决于这些&砖块&质量的好坏。因此,学习英语写作首先应学好造句,打好坚实的句法基础,才有可能写出好的文章,才能顺利通过四、六级考试。那么写好英语句子究竟要从何入手,怎样才能写出好的句子?本文将从三个方面帮助备战四、六级考试的广大考生写好英语句子。&&& 一、 掌握好句子的评判标准&&& 1. 意思完整(unity)  一个英语句子只能反映出一个中心意思,句子中的所有内容必须围绕句子中心意思进行,只有这样才能达到意思完整。  Born in a small town in South China in the early 50s, he grew up to be a famous musician.  该句的两部分之间并没有逻辑上的联系,因为在50年代初出生于华南一个小城市的一个人并不一定会成为有名的音乐家。这个句子因此缺乏了完整性。可修改为:&&& He was born in a small town in South China in the early 50s. In his childhood he liked to sing songs,so he worked hard to enter a conservatory. In the 70s he became a famous musician.&&& 改后的句子就好一些,因为它解释了那人是怎样成为音乐家的。&&& Du Fu was one of the greatest poets.&& 该句有毛病,因为所表达的意思并不完整:时代和国家都没有提到。可改为:Du Fu was one of the greatest poets of the Tang Dynasty.&& 该句加了the Tang Dynasty句子的意思就清楚了,我们都知道唐是中国历史上的一个朝代。&& 2. 意思连贯(coherence)&& 意思连贯指句子各部分之间的意思清楚,衔接合理,过渡自然。  Customers can decide whether to go to and whether to spend money at the stores or restaurants whileowners of the stores and restaurants can find out whether their policies are good or not.  这个句子清晰明了,衔接紧密,连贯自然。  造成句子意思不连贯的原因很多,如代词指代不清,平行结构错误,垂悬修饰语,修饰语位置不当,时态语态运用不当等。&&& John is healthy, wealthy and an athlete.&&& 该句结构不平行,句子意思不连贯,可改为:&&& John is healthy, wealthy and athletic.&&& After reading the letter, my heart was beating fast.&&& 该句子的主语和分词的逻辑主语不一致,出现了垂悬结构,应改为:&&& After reading the letter, I found my heart was beating fast.&&& The doctor promised on her way to her hospital to come and see me.&&& 该句修饰语的位置摆放不恰当,与被修饰语位置不贴近,容易产生误解,应改为:&&& The doctor promised to come and see me on her way to her hospital.&&& 3. 精炼简洁(conciseness)  一个好的英语句子应该精练简洁,意思表达言简意赅。不必要的词应该去掉,能省去的词要省去。许多考生为了完成考试所要求的字数,有时难免会牵强地加入一些赘词,得画蛇添足,使句子拖沓不简洁。  My sister accompanied me to go to the airport.&&& 这个句子中划线部分&to go&是多余的,可改为:&&& My sister accompanied me to the airport.&&& Learning a foreign language is important to us who are students.  这个句子中划线部分who are 是多余的,可改为:&&& Learning a foreign language is important to us students.&&& There are trees on all sides of the house, and the trees hide the house. People can hardly see the housefrom the outside.&&& 这个句子虽然很长,但句子间的含义是重复罗嗦的,可改为:&&& The house, hidden behind trees, can hardly be seen from the outside.&&& 二、 实现句子的多样性&&& 在一篇文章中,如果许多句子的形式都一样,结构都相同,长短也差不多,那么即使文章内容再丰富,读起来也会令人乏味,只有实现句子形式的多样性,才会使文章变得有声有色,为文章注入活力。下面介绍几种常用的实现句子多样化的方法和手段。&&&& 1. 句子长度的变化  一般说来,句子本身的长短并无优劣之分。短句,由于字数少,直截了当,一般比较简洁、明快、有力,但不利于表达复杂的语义内容。长句,因为使用的定语、状语部分较多,限制了概念的外延,增大了概念的内涵,所以比较精确、严密,但使用起来不够灵活,易引起一些不必要的错误发生。建议广大四、六级考生在考试中应当长短句交错使用。请看下列这段文字。&&& Last Sunday, it was sunny. It was wonderful to me. I got up early in the morning. I had breakfast at home.My mother cooked it for me. I said goodbye to my parents. Then I rode my bike to visit my best friend, XiaYu.He promised to teach me to learn to skate.  上述这段文字,由于短句使用过多,显得呆板,句子间的衔接、连贯没有恰当的表现出来,请对比修改后:  Last Sunday it was both a sunny and a wonderful day to me. After I had eaten my breakfast at homewhich my mother cooked for me, I said goodbye to my parents. Then I rode my bike to visit my best friend,XiaYu, who promised to teach me how to skate.&&& 2. 句子开头的多样性  一般情况下,名词或代词作主语出现在主位上,但也可以有其他词或词组出现主位上作为句子的开头。常有以下几种方式。&&& ① 利用倒装结构  In rushed the noisy children.The artist was born poor, and poor he remained all his life.&&& ② 利用分词或分词短语&&& Having finished his homework, he went out to play football.&&& Encouraged by her parents, she made up her mind to try again.&&& ③ 利用介词短语&&& On my desk stands a red beautiful table lamp.&&& Owing to his help and encouragement, most of us have entered college.&&& ④ 利用状语分句&&& Though I had a hard time, I indeed benefited a lot from my experience.&&& No matter what you get, you must have competence and keep learning.&&& ⑤ 利用名词从句&&& What is most important is that you keep fit, work well and study well.&&& What he said yesterday surprised us all.&&& 3. 句子结构的多样化  在一篇文章中,要尽可能避免使用同一种句型结构太多,这样会使文章显得单一、枯燥,所以,在一篇文章中,要根据表达的需要,适当地使用一些句子结构变化的技巧,这样,文章才会显得有生机,得分高就是情理之中的事了。常可通过下列方式方法。&&& ① 强调句的使用&&& It was yesterday afternoon that John met the new manager in the office.&&& It is my competence that helps me get the job.&&& ② It用作形式主语&&& It seemed that man will land on Mars in the near future.&&& It is our duty to take immediate measures to protect nature.&&& ③ It用作形式宾语&&& We find it difficult to learn English idioms.&&& He thinks it hard to put up with his friend's arrogance.&&& ④ 复合句的使用&&& The man who has taught for thirty years is our English teacher.&&& The thought that there would soon be nothing to eat on this isolated island frightened me.&&& ⑤ 主动被动语态的灵活运用&& 主动:The teacher asked parents and children to attend the lecture given by John.&& 改为被动:Parents and children were asked to attend the lecture given by John.&& ⑥ 虚拟语气的使用&& It is high time you gave up your bad habit of smoking.&& If only I had learned English well.&& 三、 避免常见句子错误&& 多数考生在考试中,由于时间紧,思考时间少,大部分没经打草稿就开始了写作文,所以写出来的句子或多或少会存在些句法错误,这样势必会影响到整个考试的结果。常见句子错误及改正方法如下:&& 1. 残缺句(sentence fragment)&& 残缺句包括从属分句和短语,它们仅仅是句子的一部分,不能独立存在,必须把它们写进相应的句子中。&& Although he was tired.(误)&& Tom continued to work although he was tired.(正)&& Selling newspapers on the crowded streets.(误)&& We found the boy selling newspapers on the crowded street.(正)&& 2. 串句(run-on sentence)  学生写作时最常出现的错误之一。即两个或两个以上的独立句子被错误地用逗号隔开或根本就没有标点符号就相连形成串句。主要原因在于:中文的标点与英文的用法是有一定不同的。&& Canada is a beautiful country, many people like traveling there.&& 这个句子很多学生认为是正确的句子,实际上却是一个很典型的串句,是个错句。这个句子的改正方法有三:&& ① 将中间的逗号变成句号,使各句子独立。&& Canada is a beautiful country. Many people like traveling there.&& ② 除逗号外再加一个并列连接词and, but, or等,连成并列句。&& Canada is a beautiful country, and many people like traveling there.&& ③ 用分号代替逗号把两个完整句连起来,换句话说,分号可以连接两个完整句而逗号不行。&& Canada is many people like traveling there.&& 3. 句子关系前后不一致&& 在写英语作文时,文章在时态、语态、单复数、人称等方面应保持一致。错误地改变这些成分的一致关系会使句子互相混乱,意义含糊不清。&& She bought a new car and drives it two years ago.(误)此句时态不一致,应改为:&& She bought a new car and drove it two years ago.(正)&& If I were a millionaire, I will help all the poor people.(误)此句前后语气不一致,应改为:&& If I were a millionaire, I would help all the poor people.(正)&& 4. there be结构使用错误&& 例如:在中国有很多人拥有了私人轿车。多数考生会写成:&& There are a lot of people have their own car in China.&& 这个错误十分普遍,这就是按汉语式思维方式写出了汉语式的英文句子,改正方法通常有二:&& ① 将There are结构去掉改为简单句。&& A lot of people have their own car in China.&& ② 在people后加关系代词who,改为一个定语从句。&& There are a lot of people who have their own car in China.  上述是笔者根据多年从事英语写作教学经验,在批阅学生作文过程中经过不断的总结和实践归纳出来的如何写好英语句子的三大要领,相信对广大的四、六级考生以及英语爱好者迅速提高自己的写作水平和能力有所裨益。4
